Raising a child is a wonderful part of life. Helping to shape a young person’s views, and raising them in a positive, caring environment can be very rewarding. It can also be rewarding to bring education into a child’s world.

Education is a crucial part of our lives, and starts from the very day we’re born. Learning is like breathing, it sustains us and enables us to grow and develop.

A young person’s formal education at school is a clear pathway through academic development, but it’s also important to foster an environment of learning at home. That’s where all of us with a child in our life, whether we’re a parent, an aunt or uncle, grandparent, a sibling, or even a godparent, can play a proactive part in becoming a positive, educational role model.

Demonstrating the positive value of learning is a great way of showing children why they need to work hard at school, and why education can be a power for good in their lives.

There are lots of ways to be a positive role model when it comes to education. You can learn a new skill, and share your learning process with a child. You can learn a new skill along with a young person – perhaps through watching documentaries or reading together. You could also enrol on an educational course to demonstrate how learning can have a positive influence.

Becoming an educational role model is a great way of making a positive impact on your family. Showing a young person that you’re learning is evidence of why education matters. If you want to be a positive role model, find ways to promote the power of education.
