Does my guarantor need to be UK based?
Your guarantor will take responsibility for any unpaid arrears during your tenancy period. A guarantor can be anyone who is not a full time student, and they do not need to be a UK resident.
What happens to my deposit? Is it refundable?
The deposit you pay is put into a Government approved tenancy deposit scheme. A certificate is emailed to you; this protects your deposit. At the end of your stay we will make deductions from your deposit for damage and penalties. If there is no damage we will refund your deposit within 10 working days.
How can I pay my booking fee?
You can pay directly into the bank account as stated in your invoice, or over the phone by debit card, or in person at the college.
Is there an age limit for booking accommodation with Thames Wharf North?
We have no upper age limits on our accommodation; however, we do need residents to be over 18, and in full time education. This is due to the legally binding tenancy agreement that each tenant is required to sign before living with us at Thames Wharf North.
How secure is the accommodation?
We have CCTV in and around the property and a electronic key fob entry system for the main entrance. There is also an intercom facility in each room, two on site staff/wardens and a 24/7 emergency mobile number for you to contact.
Do I have to pay council tax?
Students don’t have to pay council tax in the UK.
Do I need a TV License?
In the UK each household needs a license to watch a television, or to watch BBC programmes on a mobile or laptop. This money funds the BBC, who don’t carry adverts. Find out more here.
What if something in my room breaks or isn’t working?
Let us know immediately, by email or next time you’re in College. Our team are here to help 24/7. Alternatively, you can write to the Wardens at Flat 1 or 2.
Can I have pets?
We don’t allow pets in the accommodation.
Can I receive post and parcels?
Parcels can be delivered to our centrally based office on 65 George Street, OX1 2BQ. We are open Monday – Friday 08:30-18:00. A member of our staff will send you an email when a parcel is received. For security you will need to provide photo ID and sign to confirm collection. We cannot give your post to other residents without written authorisation.
Can I extend my contract length?
Yes, we can extend your contract at any time, as long as your room is available, although there is an administration charge of £75 for contract renewals. If you’d like to change your room after your initial contract expires we can do this, although we will have to apply the charge of £75 for cleaning your old room.
Can I smoke in the residence?
Sorry, we don’t allow smoking anywhere in the hall of residence. This includes E-cigarettes. If you’d like to smoke please find a space at least 3 meters from the building.
Does Thames Wharf North supply bedding and towels?
We can provide linen at an extra cost. This includes bedding, a pillow, a towel and bathroom mats.

What bills are included in the rent?
Gas, electricity and water are included in the rent.
Does the accommodation have internet?
Yes the accommodation has WiFi and this is at a separate cost. Forms will be emailed to you the day you are checking in to Thames Wharf North and your internet username and password will be sent to you once you have competed the payment process.
How many students share a kitchen?
Thames Wharf North has a large kitchen on each floor with double facilities and ample seating/dining area, dry food storage space and fridge/freezers. This is shared between 6 to 8 people on each floor. There is also washing and drying facilities.
