Philip graduated with an LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Nottingham. He moved into immigration law in the early 1980s, supporting war resisters from South Africa who were seeking asylum in the UK. After being called to the Bar, he started his career in London with the not for profit UK Immigration & Advisory Service (UKIAS) before moving to Paddington Law Centre.
He then worked in Birmingham for renowned legal aid firm McGrath and Co where he headed up their immigration team and transferred from the Bar to qualify as a solicitor. In 1995 he migrated south to Oxford, setting up an Immigration team at Linnells (subsequently subsumed into Blake Morgan).
Philip founded Turpin Miller in 2002 together with Clare Miller intending to create a firm rooted in human rights and legal excellence. Turpin Miller quickly established a reputation as one of the leading immigration firms in the UK and that national reputation has continued to grow ever since.
Philip has sat on the Executive of the Immigration Lawyers Practitioners Association (ILPA) and was a legal consultant to the 2014 ‘Chasing Status’ report by the Legal Action Group highlighting the ‘Windrush generation’ appalling situation’. He continues to support and inspire a growing and dynamic team of lawyers at Turpin Miller.
In his current role, he provides expert immigration advice to the University of Oxford, Oxfam, other NGOs, private businesses, entrepreneurs and skilled workers, helping those organisations and individuals navigate the intricacies of immigration control. He has also assisted numerous ‘Persons of Exceptional Talent’ to obtain their Tier 1 endorsements and visas.
Philip has well over 30 years of immigration law experience. He is known for his ability to couple his profound knowledge of the Law with his many years of experience, to find practical solutions to real-life immigration dilemmas and problems.

My career has taken me through a varied number of roles but over the last 25 years has always been in education. Starting as an EFL Tutor, I have taught in Turkey (Istanbul), UK (Oxford) and Spain (Girona) where I set up and ran my own Language School before returning to the UK (Oxford) as a Director of Studies and then Principal of a Language and Tutorial College. I did that for 12 years before joining OBC and apart from oversight of ‘Teaching and Learning’, ‘Management’ and ‘CPD and Welfare’ it also involved annual guest teaching at a number of Universities and sixth form colleges in Japan (Tokyo). In addition to this I have travelled to Russia, Germany, Thailand, China, the UAE, Kazakhstan marketing and promoting English Language and UK education.
Role(s): As PREVENT Lead I ensure PREVENT compliance by training staff, arranging CPD and participating in the induction process. As Head of the English Language Teaching department I also ensure compliance and quality of the enrolment and teaching policies and processes. Supporting our Foundation students, both pre-enrolment and during their first year, is a key strength of this department and one of two links to my third role: Co-Head of Admissions. The other link is the testing and interviewing potential Foundation students for their language and academic suitability for the course. Apart from the English support, testing and interviewing, my role as Co-Head of Admissions is to liaise closely with Puja (Head of Admissions) to co-sign on admissions issues from point of contact to attendance to student support.

Antonino Pilade is an artist and film-maker who studied fine arts in Catania (Italy), specialising in painting, sculpture and ceramics in 1996. As a very young artist, he started to work in theatre, initially as a props designer and set producer, before becoming a director’s assistant. Whilst working in the theatre, Antonino developed his individual work as a visual artist. In 1997, the critic and journalist Arcangelo Izzo collected a series of Pilade‘s artworks, and turned them into a successful solo exhibition called “Metropolitani”. At the same time, he began to develop his skills as a photographer and video-producer of short films, allowing him to continue exploring social and psychological issues from a personal and intimate point of view using media new to him. In 2005, he was selected for a workshop by Artur Zmijewski (video artist) at Montevergini Contemporary Art Museum in Siracusa. Pilade‘s last project, a video installation based on the project realised in Canary Wharf, was presented within the international contemporary art festival Tina b in Prague in October 2012 and at European Horizons at Savonlinna’s Provincial Museum (Finland), in March 2013.
